The Model Actress Scenerio!

Every so often someone new on the scene rolls along and causes a stir in the fashion world!  Rila Fukushima is no exception. She will be a more commonly known face on Britian’s side thanks to her role in the new Wolverine film (she plays the flame haired Yukio) but she has also appeared in many top end ads, music videos and short films.
She falls into the very large Model /Actress bundle alongside Rosie Huntington Whitely, Rebecca Romjin, and Lily Cole etc.

(Stella McCartney blue metallic jumpsuit)
But there is something about Fukushima’s look that sets her way above the rest.
Her style is understated yet colourfu, dynamic, and wildly futuristic

Rila Fukushima’s look is different! and truth be told I personally can’t wait to see

Topdog, Topshop!!

I actively avoid Topshop, i usually scour online and vintage boutiques to find one off pieces, but when i read about this i had to say something!
Topshop have launched a range of hand crafted silk scarves made by women whom have sought shelter under the Key of Freedom project.

Topshop have been working with the Key to Freedom project for a year, and their aim is to provide a safe environment for vulnerable girls in West Bengal.  these girls are given security and the opportunity to learn how to dye, sew and print to become independent through work.
A spokesperson from Topshop has stated that these women earn a good wage (hopefully it’s above the minimum status) and that any additional cash left over goes back to the charity.

I must admit though, despite people’s cynicism all of this is for a good cause. And thanks to their message and how they look, i’m on a bit of a mission to collect all four scarves before they sell out!
Their simply perfect for summers,  (head wraps, sarongs etc) and cold winters.  I’m in love with the blue floral pattern one and my friend recently bought the peach coloured one.   (You can show off your scarf on Instagram and Twitter).
These hand crafted scarves come in a variety of gorgeous Indian patterns, are made from silk and cost roughly £32 (online price) and they are only available at the Topshops located in Oxford Street and Brompton Road.

Summer of 2013, the year music came back!

Sorry to all my readers for my total absence! the last year has been crazy busy but i have found some gems (both fashion and music wise) to paff on about. This summer has been all about music,The Rolling Stone at Glasto, The Arctic Monkey's SMOKIN hot and more adult return (see below to see what i mean!)

To psychedelia making a full scale comeback!
the super freaky Tame Impala has been on a steady repeat on my I-Pod, with sick songs like Mind Mischief, Half Full Glass of Wine, Elephant and my favourite Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.

and The F.U.R.S have also left a major impression on me and my music list with their old school 60's California/ San Fran style tracks and music video's.
i can only wonder what more could possibly come from the year 2013!!

Doh'ing for Homeade Doughnuts

4 cups of self raising flour
2 tablespoons of caster sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
1 beaten egg
10 fl oz of warm milk
Light oil
105g (31/2) of warm melted butter
2 tablespoons of dry yeast

1)    Combine flour , sugar, salt and yeast in a mixing bowl, and combine milk, eggs and butter in a separate bowl.
2)     Gradually fold in the flour mix to create a soft dough

3)    Turn the bowl onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 min, the dough should turn soft and pliable,  roughly the same consistency as pizza dough (but don’t over knead, otherwise the doughnuts will turn rock hard!)

4)    Put the dough in an lightly oiled bowl before wrapping in clingfilm and placing somewhere warm, 45 minuted to an hour should be fine.

5)    Once the wait is up knead the dough for a minute before letting it rest for a 5 minutes.

6)    Roll out to roughly 5 mm thick before cutting into circles with a biscuit cutter,  leave the discs on a lightly floured surface for 20 minutes to rise.

7)    Heat the oil ( the oil should be up to about 21/2 inches) to 130 degrees (be sure to let the oil get hot first, and be sure not to the oil smoke up the gaff)

8)    Fry until golden brown on both sides and cooked through, a few tester balls should be made first, and drain the doughnuts on paper towels.

9)    To make the cinnamon sugar take some caster sugar and some powdered cinnamon and mix in a bowl......that’s it

10) Be sure to toss the doughnuts into the sugar while their hot, so the sugar can crystallize and cling to the doughnut.

Lolita Has It All

My deep love of Lolita fashion grew after this style just relishes in being quintessentially girly!
I'm now focusing my attention to coats! the now ugly troop of grey and khaki adorn our streets
while these gorgeous gems stay locked away in a vintage shop.
i love a mac as much as the next girl but just look at this style! the flair! the unblushingly good taste.
Regency and Victorian heavily dictate the Lolita look, the detail in the fur trimmed (also available in faux)
just oozes innocent sex appeal, while the lapels and gold buttons scream sophiticata chic.

Swoon Much

I'M NOT PAST IT ! ! ! !

A wise woman once stated “I’m Fifty fucking two and i will rock this dress” yes it was Samantha Jones (Sex and the City 2) what is it that makes us feel so defensive when it comes to our fashion choices?
(Copyright of HBO, New Line Cinema)
I’m 20, and yet (thanks to the media bombarding us with tiny tots dominating the Market aka Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez) i feel so damn old and frumpy!
I’m beginning to feel like i’m the only young woman who doesn’t break out the ridiculous neon shorts and Raybans as soon as sunshine hits!
Between my deep love of vintage and my obsession with tea i might as well pack it in and start doing crosswords in front of Corrie on a Friday night.

Mutton dressed as lamb? Is that what we’d say to Helen Mirren? Hell no! That super GILF shows us how to dress with syle for any age!
Many women don’t feel comfy in their own skin till their about thirty five anyway....(that’s fifteen years for me! Gulp!)

Recent pictures of Madonna shows her wearing super tight short shorts revealing her....erm...derriere caused all the bitchy jokes to emerge from bloggers, reporters, and TV personalities.
I say a woman that looks as fabulous as her should feel free to wear whatever the hell she likes!
After years of being in the public eye, scrutinizing her every fashion choice, hasn’t she earned the right of dressing how she feels comfortable?
I say go for it Madge dress how you please and feel free....free i say!
An internal fighting of chicks push the term mutton dressed as lamb, and you know what i’m sick of it!
I don’t want to see bottle after bottle of anti ageing cream as soon as i turn 21, but i’d be lying if i said i didn't pay attention to them!
Alas big companies are happy as long as women fret over their clothes and wrinkles
But i say we should fight the man and be happy in our own skin,  after all even the most glam of women own an old pair of jogging bottoms and Bridget Jones pants!

Rising Star #2 Jennifer Lawrence

This section focuses on rising star Jennifer Lawrence aka Katniss Everdeen, the kick ass heroine of new movie The Hunger Games (based on the book by Suzanne Collins)

she’s risen from tiny talent to the new big cheese!
She’s currently on the front of nearly every magazine, magazine ad and TV special, you can’t go three paces without spotting her trademark bambi eyes and killer smile, which is hardly painfull as she’s just so dang likeable.
She’s recently confessed she loves eating to much to diet and loathes the size zero trend (Glamour magazine, April 2012)
(Copyright of Glamour)

And now she’s on the ever growing moneyball that is the Hunger Games trilogy (she’s secured a new three movie deal)
Hate her or Love her you’ve got to love her down to her earth charm and talent.

Mary Portas, the Stilettoed wrecking ball

There’s something about Mary Portas that causes the governement  to quake in their boots, is it because she’s Made it easier for people to become market traders by removing unnecessary regulations so that anyone can trade on the high street unless there is a valid reason why not, or maybe because Banks who own empty properties on the high street should either administer these assets well or be required to sell them?
Either way this woman is not only a brain but a massive voice for the little guy!
Having been blurbed in the The Independent Top 100 Tweeters poll i’m hardly surprised he’s got Prime Minister at his knees gushing about Portas for her review and explaining that the Government would respond to her recommendations in Spring 2012.
Cameron said "I am delighted that Mary Portas has produced such a clear vision of how we can create vibrant and diverse town centres and breathe life back into our high streets.

She now fronts a new show on Channel 4 Mary’s Bottom Line

which aims to breathe new life into the ancient term Made In Britain, she’s trying to open an underwear botique with a band of jobless brits, and she has to battle the big suits who dominate the market (La Senza, M&S, Victoria’s Secret etc) This has made compulsive viewing as Mary not only has to battle the big guys, but she has to retune a great deal of folk who no longer believe in the British workforce.

People's Choice Awards

Yes, Yes i know it's all happened a while ago but the clothes still need to be covered! especially when their as gorgeous as Emma Stone's green tux Jacket by Gucci (The Spring Collection 2012)

Another one of my favorites has to be blossoming beauty Miley Cyrus and her David Koma dress (seen on the runway a few months earlier)

and finally i have to admit the Disney ladies had it all wrapped up this year, Check out Vanessa Hudgens bad girl lace and leather look and  Demi Lovato's 60's messy up do and tiny nose stud.

every year the women dress to impress at the People's Choice, but this year it was the old school good girls which took my breath away! x

The Perfect Match

I bought a pair of cream 40's style Holly shoes nearly five years ago from Littlewoods (roughly 25 quid) , so beautiful but so incredibly impractical!

I did wear them nonetheless, and it resulted in me tripping over in the street (twice)
In the end i sadly stowed them at the back of my closet never to be seen again!

Most recently i uncovered a lush cream leather satchel  hiding away in an old Thrift store
(148 Whitecross Street, 02072532763)
(all purses and handbags cost $5)

The same cream leather as my shoes !, i pulled the pretty shoes out of retirement and now wear them on sunny weekends (where sitting down and drinking coffee is all that's required of me)
Don't you ever sniff at old thrift stores (no matter how musty they seem) one woman's trash is another woman's treasure!

Urban Classic @ The Barbican

Wow what a night! The incredible talent on display was nothing short of
Exceptional.  The Urban Classic mash up was an insane showcase from the brilliant BBC philharmonic and the wonderful Jules Buckley to the tough beats of Ms Dynamite, Devlin and Skepta!
The crowd was diverse, from cool couples canoodling in the stands to stiff parents accompanying the kids.
Ms Dynamite kept things alive and the party pumping! She managed to get the crowd moving (Before the booze had kicked in!)

Fazer was of course dangerously dapper, not only charming but incredibly talented.
He treated us to an old Ndubz classic, before he gave us a taste of his new tunes (which included a reworked version of Sting’s an Englishman in New York)
And his unexpected piano playing left even the most cynical of chaparones totally speechless!
after nearly three hours of mashed up music the crowd were screaming for encores! Which the ENTIRE musical ensamble came out once more to play a poigniant track from the late great Whitney Houston, It’s Not Right But It’s Okay.
I shan’t forget this concert! This blew my mind and had me dancing and appreciating the fine art that is Classical music.
And if you don’t believe i was there i have the display balloon my best friend and i nicked to prove it!
